New Season, New Targets and an England call-up for LDS starlets
It seems like only yesterday that LDS juniors Sophia John, Lily and Natalie Main were representing East Region in the Aspire Team Championships, coming joint first. After that success, Lily and Natalie took part in their first overseas event the Dutch Junior Open, where Lily performed particularly well.
The three of them then headed off to their annual residential camp in Kenilworth where hard work was sprinkled with other activities such as a trip to Alton Towers, under the tutelage of elite coach Steve Townsend and England no2 Sarah-Jane Perry.
After some well-earned recovery time on holiday all three have been seen working hard in the gym and on court over the summer. Natalie was rewarded with a call-up to the England Potential Squad, where she reportedly performed very well – no mean feat given she had spent the previous four days on a residential camp led by England coach David Campion and EP lead coach Adam Fuller.
This weekend sees Sophia head for Cardiff to take part in the Welsh Junior Open, which is then followed by the County Closed and the first English event, the Gold level event at Millfield.
The girls will be looking to continue their progress throughout the season, which will be especially challenging for Sophia and Natalie as they move up age groups during the season.
