Courts Reopening
Dear Squash
enthusiast;
I am delighted to
announce that the squash courts in the newly renamed Lewsey Sports
Park will open on 16thJanuary
2012.
The committee has
decided to hire all 5 courts for the evening from 5pm until 9pm so
that everyone in the club and the wider squash community in the
area can come and have a look around and have a hit. There will be
a bucket for contributions towards the cost, but there is no
obligation to contribute. The idea is just a bit of a social squash
evening to mark the re-opening.
Steve McCoy has
kindly allowed the LDS teams to postpone their county fixtures that
evening (ironically it would have been a derby match between the
1sts and 2nds), he has also stated that in other matches, if BOTH
teams agree, then they can do likewise to allow others in the
county to join us in what should be the premium squash facility in
the County.
For those who are
not existing members, feel free to join us, there will be
membership forms available on the evening, as well as entry forms
for the rescheduled Beds County Championships which will be held at
the club in the new year.
Active Luton will
also be there with an offer of some sort of "corporate" deal for
membership of the gym facilities, but I am unclear at the moment
what the details are.
There will be a
formal relaunch of the club later, probably in April involving a
squash legend, but for now it's important that we hit the ground
running on day one and ensure people either begin, or return to
playing on the site. Whilst there are
currently 5 courts, one of those is multi-use and will be under
threat if sufficient demand is not created, but conversely, if
there is excess demand, there is the prospect of a 6th court being
created.
On a purely
personal note, it's been a tough few years. In fact it will be just
two months short of three years since Riley's closed it's doors and
since then the Committee and others such as England Squash and
Racketball have worked tirelessly towards this day. Frankly, there
have been many who didn't believe this day would ever come,
thankfully sufficient people refused to give it up. However, it is
now in every one of our hands, as a squash community, to make this
site a success, I urge you to attend if you can, get active in the
leagues and the ladder and make the site a success.
Let's make 2012 the
year of squash in the County! Thanks for your support.
Feel free to
forward this to ANY squash contacts you know.
Regards
Paul (07787) 920451
