British Open U13 2012 Sheffield
Wednesday 11 January 2012
On the 2nd January 2012 Muqaddam Khan represented Luton and
Dunstable Squash club in the U13 British Squash Open in Sheffield.
Muqaddam moved to Luton from Pakistan in 2010 and has since
received support for his obvious squash talent from both his school
(Foxdell Junior School) and Luton and Dunstable Squash Club. This
support lead to him gaining entry into one of the most prestigious
junior tournaments around with the best 64 players in the World
competing.
Muqaddam has just turned 11 so was very young in the u13 age group
category and his first opponent was over a year and a half older
than
Muqaddam and seeded to reach the later stages of the competition.
As expected he was too strong and Muqaddam lost 3-0 but gave him a
few
scares along the way and showed plenty of fight. He had 5 more
matches in the tournament and managed to win 2 of them 3-1 and only
just lost out 3-2 in another.
The eventual winner of the U13 category was the Egyptian Ziad Sakr
but Muqaddam will be back next year and will be hoping to mount a
serious
challenge. County captain and Luton and Dunstable coach Steve
Davies said "He can be very proud of his efforts throughout the
week in Sheffield. Knowing Muqaddam he will probably be a little
disappointed with a final finishing position of 52nd but at his age
it is all about learning and improving and he certainly showed he
has the determination to do just that. Next year he has every
chance of competing with the top players in this tournament."
