LDS Power to title
A large crowd was on hand to witness a flawless performance as
LDSRC thrashed David Lloyd 18-0 to seal the Beds County title in
their first season. The team knew that 13 points would be enough to
clinch the title but David Lloyd have traditionally been one of the
stronger teams in the league. The task was made all
the harder by the news that Team
Captain Dean Pike had failed to recover from injury as had stalwart
Steve Wells adding to the long term absence of Victoria Lust, again
due to injury. The team news wasn't all bad as Ryan Osborn had
returned from University to make a rare appearance for the
team.
It was in fact Ryan who sealed the title when he won the second game in his match, but every member of the team excelled to do an unexpected, but thoroughly deserved clean sweep, much to the disappointment of LDSRC's nearest challengers Silsoe, who were also playing at the Lewsey Squash Centre.
Captain Dean Pike said, "The team have performed brilliantly, especially over the last few weeks when injuries have hit hard. Mark Pinnock, deserves a special mention for turning out in recent weeks and being undefeated. Now those of us who are injured can concentrate on recovering and having a crack at the National Club title later in the year."
Club Chair, Paul Main, added, "This is a remarkable achievement by the players. The club has been in existence less than a year and to win the title is beyond our wildest dreams. I know the last few weeks have been incredibly tough with all the injuries and credit to all the squad for their achievement and to finish the season with such a remarkable result is the icing on the cake"
