Can they win it?

Yes they Khan... Phenomenal performances by LDS junior members Muqaddam and Azhan Khan delivered the finest individual victory for the club since it’s inception two years ago, with Muqaddam winning The Hertfordshire Junior Squash Under-11 title. His younger brother, performed equally well only losing out by a tie break in a 5 game thriller in the semi-final, having disposed of the third seed in the first round.

Another Successful GBI

GBI March 11.JPG

"The first Get Back Into session of 2011 finished on a competitive high with the end of course Tournament being won by Belinda Jones seen receiving her trophy from ES&R Level 1 coach Adrian John.  Belinda won a tough best of three final against Gloria Rodrigues 12:10, 12:10.

This is the fifth time LDSRC have hosted a GBI squash course which gives the opportunity for new or returning squash players to try out the sport under the supervision of Licensed ES&R coaches and is hopefully a stepping stone towards full participation.  The next seven week course is due to start in May."

LDS regularly runs Get Back Into Squash programmes on behalf of Team Beds and Luton and has become one of it's most successful sports.

Adil and Steve heading for final?

The County's premier squash event the Beds Squash Championship continued this week and the seeds continue to triumph, with one exception, despite the inclement conditions affecting both transport and the courts where single dot balls were often used.

Brave show by Jasmine and Hannah

hannah_and_jazz_16_10_10.jpg

Jasmine Watson and Hannah Stevens (pictured above) entered this weekends Peter Nichol Junior Open at The Hunts Country Club near Cambridge.  An England Squash sanctioned Bronze event  it is the second in a series of five open tournaments played around the East of England this season.  Needless to say the quality was high with their opponents ranked 15, 20, 21 and 30 in the UK girls U13 category.

There were two groups of three round robins with the top two playing in the final, the second two for third and fourth and the thirds playing for fifth and sixth place.  Hannah and Jasmine, still new to tournament squash came third in their groups and played off for fifth and sixth place with Hannah taking the honours.

The next in the series is in Suffolk at the end of November with plenty of court time and practise between now and then

Disappointment in Windsor

Disappointing is the only word to describe how our members fared at Windsor.

After overcoming a prelimenary round on Thursday, Ramon Sharma succumbed to a stomach bug and had to withdraw.

John got off to a cracking start winning 3-0 in his first round match on Saturday morning in a very one-sided game. However, he had to face a player known to many in the club, Rob St Ledger, in the second round. Rob is really a B Grade player but suffered a very serious injury to both knees some months ago and is on the long road back. He had entered at C, but as that was full was slotted into D and thus proved too strong for John.

Better luck next time chaps!
