hannah_and_jazz_16_10_10.jpg

Jasmine Watson and Hannah Stevens (pictured above) entered this weekends Peter Nichol Junior Open at The Hunts Country Club near Cambridge.  An England Squash sanctioned Bronze event  it is the second in a series of five open tournaments played around the East of England this season.  Needless to say the quality was high with their opponents ranked 15, 20, 21 and 30 in the UK girls U13 category.

There were two groups of three round robins with the top two playing in the final, the second two for third and fourth and the thirds playing for fifth and sixth place.  Hannah and Jasmine, still new to tournament squash came third in their groups and played off for fifth and sixth place with Hannah taking the honours.

The next in the series is in Suffolk at the end of November with plenty of court time and practise between now and then

Tough task set for Hannah and Jasmine

Two of LDS's brightest youngsters Hannah Stevens and Jasmin Watson head off tomorrow to take part in the latest leg of the Peter Nicol Junior Challenge series. The national series of events is being hosted on this occasion at Hunts Club in Cambridgeshire.

Both girls face tough challenges against nationally ranked players, Jasmine in particular faces the daunting prospect of getting on court with Nadine El-Refee, ranked 15th in England.

I am sure all members wish them well and they will surely return as better players for the experience.

Disappointment for Brave Hannah

A record breaking entry of 126 players descended on Bishop's Stortford Squash Club in Hertfordshire for a great weekend of Squash that would decide the 10 Championship and 7 Plate titles on offer. Everyone seemed to have a superb weekend and as expected some of the squash on display was first class. There were a number of outstanding performers throughout the weekend that deserve great credit but special mention must go to Ritchie Fallows, Charlie Green, Anna Kimberley, Grace Gear and Elise Lazarus who all managed to win their respective draws without dropping a single game.

Club Juniors get ready for Bishop Stortford

hannah_june_10.jpgThis weekend sees Hannah Stevens (pictured left) and Declan Osborn travel to Bishop Stortford for the Eastern Regional Closed Junior Squash Championship. Whilst Declan is almost a seasoned pro given his relative experience, for Hannah it is her very first Regional Competition.

Declan is in the Boys Under 19 category and kicks off against C. Shaw at 10.20on Court 5 at the Bishop Storford Squash Club on Saturday. Should he prevail he will face a seed, A. Lemon, in the second round at 13.40 on the same court.

Hannah has to wait until Sunday before making her bow, starting at 9.40 on Court 2. Again success would pit her against a seed in the form of G. Gear on Court 6 at 11.40.

Best of luck to both of them - a report from the competition will be on the site next week.

A Triumph for young Oliver

It's often been said that sport is a powerful force for good whether it be building bridges between warring countries, bringing divided communities together or at a more micro level instilling a sense of confidence in youngsters. That's aside from the health benefits that accrue from playing sport.

Juniors return from Burnham beaten, but unbowed

Development Officer, John Stevens reports:

Five LDS Juniors took part in a Junior graded Tournament at LA Fitness in Burnham on World Cup Sunday. Kurran Sharma and Hannah Stevens in the C grade and Shivani Sharma, Daniel Stevens and Jasmine Watson in D.

Unfortunately none got out of the group stages but some good competitive matches were had.  Hannah left the venue asking when the next tournament will be keen to get more matches under her belt.

Playing in tournaments against different and better players is great for the development of the Juniors and we will definitely be entering more next season.
