Match Report versus Open University
Latest Team Match Report
Firsts march on whilst chaos ensues for seconds
This week saw another trip to Milton Keynes for Luton and Dunstable Squash club first team to take on Open University. OU have long been one of the leagues stronger outfits and LDS were back to full strength after last week’s injury crisis.
Steve Wells and Scot Adam were on court first at numbers 5 and 4. Steve showed no signs of his recent knee injury and ran out a comfortable 3-0 winner. Meanwhile Adam had a tougher task playing Darren Ward, a player who has not played in the beds league for a while but used to play higher in the team order. Adam found his opponent too strong on the day and despite some recent comebacks could not do it again after finding himself 2-0 down, he eventually lost 3-1.
So with the match at 1-1 Steve Davies and Matt Mulara were next on court. Both completed 3-0 victories without too much alarm and took the match for Luton and Dunstable. That just left Declan Osborn back from university to play for additional team points. It was a strange game that at times looked like Osborn would run away with and yet he got drawn into his experienced opponent’s game of drops and boasts and ended up in a real battle. However, it was youth that ran out the winner on this occasion with Osborn sealing a fine night for the side by winning a close 5th game.
Captain Steve Davies said, “After a couple of early defeats this year it was an important win tonight and keeps us on track to defend our title.”
The second team’s match was cancelled at the very last minute and time will tell if it is to be replayed whilst the Herts team had a week off for half term.

Beds League : Luton Derby Match Report - LSC first versus LSC second's
Seconds show signs of improvement in Derby match.
The Bedfordshire squash league kicked off around the county on Monday with last year’s champions Luton and Dunstable 1st team in action against their 2nd team.
The match started with new recruit for the second team Craig Basham playing one of last year’s players of the season Matt Mulara. Basham will be a useful addition to LDSC2 playing at number 2 string and he got his season off to a flier with a fantastic 3-0 win against Matt. Meanwhile at number 5 string the first team had fielded talented youngster and former Pakistan international Muqaddam Khan aged 12 to play against Mohammed Azam. In a thrilling encounter that went right down to the wire Azam’s experience and extra strength just told in the last game and he edged out the younger player.

Shot and a Ghost by James Willstrop
I have a confession to make. I am a squash anorak and devour everything I can whether in real print, or virtually on the internet. Having only discovered the game just over 6 years ago and am now
in a hopeless love affair with it. I mention this at the outset because I could never be described as a dispassionate reviewer of the latest contribution to what is, in reality, a paltry amount of squash
literature.
