Charity Doubles Tournament

Main Image

Saturday 25 November saw twenty squash players head to Lewsey Sports Park for the annual charity doubles tournament.  The event, now it its fifth year, raises money for Keech Cottage in the memory of two former doubles players from Luton & Dunstable squash club.  The winners take home the Chris Simms trophy, with the runners up receiving the Pete Hilliard trophy.  As with previous years, Chris' widow Angie came down to present the trophies.

This year's event saw two groups of five pairs play in a round robin format, with each pair then having a playoff match against the pair finishing in the same position as them in the opposite group (1st vs 1st, 2nd vs 2nd etc).  A fast paced afternoon, with players spending more time on court than off it during the group stage, saw defending champions Glenn Skelton & Peter Capp book a place in the final against Scot Adam & Sean Davies.  A keenly contested final, with the remaining players providing both an audience and adjudication, saw Adam & Davies victorious by three games to one.  In doing so, they became the fifth different pairing to win the event since its inception*.

With player entry fees, and other donations, over £700 was raised for Keech Cottage during the event.
